Surviving and Thriving with Chronic Illness

Return to work is a challenge that most individuals who have become chronically ill, are coping with an addictive disease, or have sustained an injury, encounter at one time or another or potentially on an ongoing basis. There is ample literature available that documents that the longer an individual is out of work following an illness or injury, the less likely he or she will return to work. In addition, the individual who does not return to work is often found to have increased disability and medical costs, increased emotional and financial stress, poor self esteem, higher likelihood of depression and lower levels of function. All of these factors are negative and can lead to a life focus of disease and disability. This can lead to a snowball effect of cascading health problems.

Nothing is more fatal to our health than an over care of it
-Benjamin Franklin

Therefore, unless you are finically secure, the important thing is that you do try to work. Working will bring about a change in your mind and thoughts to bring about positive feelings of accomplishment, optimism, hope, confidence, strength and joy. Working provides an opportunity to turn feelings of self-pity, boredom, loneliness and depression into positive energy. We can improve our health by return to work and experiencing positive emotions as opposed to focusing on our situation.

Self pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to is, we can never do anything wise in this world.”
-Helen Keller

Striving, not just Surviving
It is important to have a work-related goal, whether it is related to finances, success, promotion or finding work that you enjoy and feel fulfilled while doing. It is important to strive, not just survive at work. The more passionate and fulfilled you are in your work or career, the more successful you may become. Here are some tips on striving in the workplace when coping with a medical condition.

1) Don’t let your illness define who you are. You define who you are. The message you want to portray is that your condition is just a card in your deck of cards. Having a chronic illness or condition is neither a source of shame or pride.
2) Focus on what you can control. You may not be able to control the disease or symptoms, but you can control the direction you take and the choices you make regarding working and your condition. Shape your work environment to meet your needs and to fit your limitations.
3) Don’t consider your condition an obstacle. Consider it a challenge, an opportunity.
4) Be honest. Do not hide your illness, do not be ashamed. But if your illness impacts your work, know your rights. Don’t take on an unnecessary burden of pretending you do not have a chronic condition. Be as public or as private as you need to be.
5) Thrive in your environment. Work with your abilities to achieve success, raise the bar, go for satisfaction not just survival. Use visualization to imagine the work environment that you need and want, stay focused and intend it.
6) Focus on the positive. Workplace success when dealing with a chronic illness or condition can be strengthening and transforming. Many new strengths, skills, qualities and confidence we were not aware we possessed evolve or blossom as a result of our illness.

Definition of Disability
Federal law defines a "Disability" as “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits or restricts the condition, manner, or duration under which an average person in the population can perform a major life activity, such as walking, seeing, hearing speaking, breathing, learning, working, or taking care of oneself. However, an impairment or diagnosis, in and of itself, does not necessarily constitute a disability: it must "substantially limit" these activities.” Another definition describes disability as any restriction or lack (resulting from an impairment) of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being.
Many of us shun at the term or label of being “disabled”. Disability infers that we have an “in” ability to do something, or we lack the ability to do something, that the person is not able or less than whole. When outwardly and inwardly we know we are capable of many wonderful things, sometimes we just need to do things differently or with accommodations. Personally, I consider myself “Difabled”.

Definition of Difability
A Difability means an individual can perform specific functions or activities, but does them differently than a normal person would. That such an individual requires accommodations, but with these accommodations is equally effective and productive as a normal, health individual. Difabled individuals have different abilities, not a lack of abilities.

If you are coping with a serious condition, in order for you to succeed, it is critical that you do accept your limitations, identify them, be open about them and work within them. We must be hopeful in our approach to function and change our thoughts that focus on our “lack of ability” or “Disability to our “different ability” or Difability. That is the difference between continued limitations and possibilities. Once you accept your difabilities and learn to work within them, you can achieve success and thrive in any environment that supports you. You can achieve things that you thought were impossible.

Sometimes what we think is so impossible turns out to be possible after all.”

Living Life On Purpose

Living life on purpose can provide you with a power of enlightenment, success, creativity, passion and inspiration. When you're inspired and on purpose, great things work for you. The risks and stress are gone, as you now move on a fast track towards your intentions. You recieve guidance and assistance from others. You are in harmony with your intentions and you feel deep positive feelings towards those people and activities that are in alignment with your passions and purpose.

If you need help finding your life purpose, may I recommend this program: www.DiscoverLifePurpose.com it is fantastic!

Being inspired and living on purpose is critical for a life of optimal health, love, success and abundance.

Here are 10 ways to practice fulfilling your intention to live life on purpose.

1) Affirm that this is an intelligent universe, there are no accidents, no one shows up by accident, not even you, everyone has a purpose. It is our responsibility to find that purpose and live by it.

2) Seize every opportunity, no matter how small to give your life away in service. Give without want. Serve others and the universe everyday.

3) Align your purpose with the field of intention.

4) Ignore what anyone else tells you about your purpose. This is your purpose, not theirs.

5) Remember that the universe works on your behalf and wants you to obtain your life goals and purpose just as much as you do.

6) Study and replicate the lives of poeple who have known their life purpose, learn, study and find yours.

7) Act as if you are living the life you were intended to live, even if you feel confused about your purpose and how you are going to achieve it.

8) Meditate or use techniques of self-hypnosis (www.SelfHypnosisForLife.com , www.LifeCreationSecrets.com )

9) Keep your thoughts and feelings on a positive plane, be in harmony with your actions. Remember, a congruent attitude is one that is positive in your thoughts, feelings and actions, you have to really want it, believe it is possible and know that you deserve it and can have it.

10) Stay in a state of awe and gratitude of all that comes your way.

10 Step Process for Creating a Stress-Free Life

Stress, we all know it and know what it can do to us. It can ravage our bodies causing disease and disability. It can reak havoc on our minds, confusing us and directing us to live in fear and anxiety. It can ruin relationships if we let it. It can take attention away from ourselves and the things in life that are most important. I have found, in success and obtaining optimal health, finding inner peace, and reducing stress is absolutely critical. Here is a summary of the 10 step process Dr. Dyer presents:

Here is a 10 step process for creating a stress-free and tranquil life.

1) Remember that your natural state is joy. You are a product of love and joy, learn to stay in harmony with these feelings.

2) Your thoughts, not the world, cause your stress. (wow...That one is powerful!)

3) You can change your thought of stress in any given moment and eliminate the anxiety for the next few moments, or hours or days. This is a conscious effort that develops out of awareness. Increase your awareness, your power of mind and reconnect to the universe.

4) Monitor your stressful thoughts by checking on your emotional state. How are you feeling???

5) Make a conscious decision and choice to select thoughts (and results) that activate good feelings. (www.ChooseYourResults.com)

6) Spend some time observing babies, and vow to emulate their profound joy.

7) Keep your ego in check. Refer to "Rule number 6". (you are going to love rule #6!)

8) Accept the guidance of your source of intention.

9) Practice silence and meditation or self hypnosis. (I personally needed help with this so I am including some programs that can help: www.SelfHypnosisForLife.com , www.QuantumMindProgram.com , www.HiddenSecretProgram.com , www.6-WeekLifeMakeover.com )

10) Stay in a state of gratitude and awe of all the abundance, love, joy and good that comes to you.

Positive Affirmations for a Stress Free Life

As you know, I am a huge fan of Dr. Wayne Dyer and I'd like to take an opportunity to post some of his reading on positive affirmations, these are focused on living a stress-free, tranquil life. I hope you enjoy and use them as I do and watch how your world, your life improves and you find your inner peace.

The key is to take the path of least resistance and focus on the abundant resources that are here. You as a human, have a thinking center, your mind. With this thinking center you have the ability to create original thought--- that means no matter what external sources (people, newspapers, tv, media) are saying, you can create your own thoughts.

1) Old thought: I feel so uneasy about the state of the economy, I have already lost so much money.

New thought as positive affirmation: I am so happy and grateful now that I live in an abundant universe, I choose to think about what I have and I will be fine. The universe will provide.

2) Old thought: I have so many things to do that I can never get caught up.

New thought as positive affirmation: I am so happy and grateful now that I am at peace. I'll only think about the one thing I am doing. I will have peaceful thoughts.

3) Old thought: I can never get ahead in this job.

New thought and positive affirmation: I choose to appreciate what I am doing right now and I'll attract an even greater opportunity.

4) Old thought: My health is a huge concern. I worry about my health, getting old and becoming sicker and dependent.

New thought as positive affirmation: I am healthy, I am healed, I think healthy. I live in a universe that attracts healing and I refuse to anticipate or give power to sickness.

5) Old thought: My family member/issue is causing me to feel anxious and fearful.

New thought as positive affirmation: I choose thoughts that make me feel good, and this will help me to uplift me and others. I know everything I need in order to handle any situation will be attracted to me in the time it is needed most.

Positive Affirmations

I am a big believer in positive affirmations and using them to co-create and attract that which you desire and also become who you want to be. The technique of positive affirmations is a powerful way to develop oneself and find inner peace.

Here are some affirmations for Self-Confidence:

I am so happy and grateful now that I am completely relaxed, self-confident and self-assured in all that I do.

I am so happy and grateful not that I can accomplish any goal that I desire through planning and self-motivation.

Here is an affirmation for Concentration:

I am so happy and grateful now that I have the ability to focus my undivided attention on any particular task at any time. I am able to concentrate deeply on anything I set my mind to. I can shut out all distractions and focus my entire attention on the problem at hand.

Here is an affirmation for Problem Solving:

I am so happy and grateful now that every problem is an opportunity for me to be a creator and that I am highly creative. I consider every problem that confronts me as a new door to be opened. I continuously attract whatever I need to solve the problem. I begin each project thinking of a new and better way to accomplish the task.

Here is an affirmation on Composure:

I am so happy and grateful now that I an poised, relaxed and peaceful. I accept challenges and disagreements with calmness.

Notice that by starting each affirmation in the present tense, and adding a statement of gratitude aligns you with the universal laws. You are practicing and embracing the law of gratitude and acting as if it is true by stating "I" and "Now". Are You In The Present?

Did you know that it has been said that most individuals only spend 1% of their life focusing in the present? Most people do not focus on their current tasks and activities. They are thinking about their past; the fight they had last night with their significant other, the children’s soccer game after work, the weekend plans, etc. They do not allow and demand of themselves to actually fully be and act in the present. Did you know that it has been said that only 2% of the population actually thinks creatively? In addition, 3% of individuals think that they think, and 95% of the population would rather die than think? Since thought has been linked to results and understanding that mental activity does not constitute as thinking, this means only a small percentage of the population really understand and uses the power of creative thinking to fast forward to their goals and realize their ideals. These are the people that are extremely successful, they choose their results.

Being Congruent: Your Attitude

Being Congruent: Your Attitude
As obvious as this sounds, it goes very very deep, so you may want to read this several times. Adopting and living with an abundant attitude is something that you believe and live at your very core. I love the way Bob Proctor explains attitude in his program, "Attitude is the composite of your thoughts, feelings and actions".

You must choose to live with an attitude of abundance, so that all of your thoughts, feelings and actions are those that reflect abundance.

Now comes the deep part. You must keep your attitude and core beliefs in alignment, we call this congruence. Have you ever said something that was really positive and inspiring, but yet in the back of your mind held onto feelings of doubt, fear or anxiety? If you use positive thinking, great, but if you use positive thinking and yet feel feelings of lack, fear or doubt, you are not feeling positive and ultimately your positive thinking will get you no where. You must truly align your thoughts, feelings and actions into positive, high vibrations. It is not until you master the art of being congruent with an abundant attitude, that you will be able to realize true success.
Congruence is the condition that all parts of you are in alignment. You must align these three key parts.

•DESIRE: The first key part is desire. You must want it. You must want abundant wealth/health/whatever you desire so badly that you are willing to make changes. You must want abundance and wealth in every cell and fiber of your being.

•DESERVE: The second key to becoming perfectly aligned and congruent is to deserve it, this is self-acceptance. This is also your self esteem, you must believe that you deserve success/health/love/your goals/wealth and abundance in all good things.

•BELIEVE: The third key part is belief. You must believe, with faith and purpose that you can achieve a great success and wealth. Part of this is developing hope and faith, I like to call it Acquiring Hope, as for all of us, it is a learned process and skill (http://www.AcquiredHopeBook.com)

You must be congruent on all three of these key factors-to your core. If one of these key factors is diffused, you will be ineffective in achieving success and wealth. For example, if you want to experience success and even feel that you deserve it, but after several weeks or months you do still not have it, you may begin to question your beliefs, maybe you believe that it is not true, that this process does not work, that you are not doing something correctly. Two out of three does not cut it. You are no longer congruent. You will not be able to choose your results or attract things that will make you successful.

Every part of you must buy in to these concepts and an attitude of abundance; you must want it, believe it is coming to you and believe you deserve it- in your mind, body and soul. When you have these three key factors in alignment, you are a power to behold. This process may take months or years to happen, most times it does not happen overnight or all at once.

For some of us, it is a result of going through a bad experience that forced us into a position of a matter of survival. Then one day, we realize that “my day is here” and everything falls into place, and the tools and resources that we need in order to advance our recovery are shown to us and we are now willing to accept them, practice them and habituate them in order to transform our life of lack into a magical experience of a life of abundance. The seed was planted, and now it is ripe and ready to bear fruit. Obtaining success and wealth results from having an abundant attitude and being congruent.

The more aligned you are with the things you want, the more powerful you attract them. The things you congruently want have no choice but to be attracted to you. People who are congruent are attractive, magnetic-even charismatic. When you are fully congruent, you are irresistible. –Mark Victor Hansen.

Enjoy your abundant and congruent you!

An Abundant Attitude: Your Core Beliefs

An Abundant Attitude: Your Core Beliefs
Your success is dependent upon your state of mind and your attitude. You have all heard it before: attitutude is everything. This hardly is a secret to success. But the secret to success is in developing the core beliefs about yourself. Contrary to how most of us grew up, seeking approval from our parents, teachers, peers and bosses. These are all external factors, outside of us, that can have a direct impact on how we feel about ourselves. Take that C you got on an important examination during college, although you studied hard for it, you got the C. This is not a reflection of you being a C student, this is a single incident that occured, nothing more. How you look at yourself and what you believe about yourself will decide your success and your results. These are your core beliefs.

Let me continue to explain that if you do not agree with or comply with who you are and want to be, people will see you as a "poser" or a fake, you must make sure that your attitude is congruent with your beliefs. The art of choosing your results comes with the skill of choosing your thoughts. You have the ability to choose your thoughts and your beliefs. You have the ability to reject all of those external factors and to create your own new thoughts. It does not matter what your situation is, you can still decide to choose your own thoughts from the inside and create new core beliefs, beliefs that emulate an abundant attitude.

Core beliefs come before success. These beliefs lead to certain thoughts, feelings and actions. Those actions are the things that produce your results. It is these core beliefs and actions that turn you into the person that you want to be, bring about the results you desire and ultimately allow you to attract that which you want to you.
