Surviving and Thriving with Chronic Illness

Return to work is a challenge that most individuals who have become chronically ill, are coping with an addictive disease, or have sustained an injury, encounter at one time or another or potentially on an ongoing basis. There is ample literature available that documents that the longer an individual is out of work following an illness or injury, the less likely he or she will return to work. In addition, the individual who does not return to work is often found to have increased disability and medical costs, increased emotional and financial stress, poor self esteem, higher likelihood of depression and lower levels of function. All of these factors are negative and can lead to a life focus of disease and disability. This can lead to a snowball effect of cascading health problems.

Nothing is more fatal to our health than an over care of it
-Benjamin Franklin

Therefore, unless you are finically secure, the important thing is that you do try to work. Working will bring about a change in your mind and thoughts to bring about positive feelings of accomplishment, optimism, hope, confidence, strength and joy. Working provides an opportunity to turn feelings of self-pity, boredom, loneliness and depression into positive energy. We can improve our health by return to work and experiencing positive emotions as opposed to focusing on our situation.

Self pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to is, we can never do anything wise in this world.”
-Helen Keller

Striving, not just Surviving
It is important to have a work-related goal, whether it is related to finances, success, promotion or finding work that you enjoy and feel fulfilled while doing. It is important to strive, not just survive at work. The more passionate and fulfilled you are in your work or career, the more successful you may become. Here are some tips on striving in the workplace when coping with a medical condition.

1) Don’t let your illness define who you are. You define who you are. The message you want to portray is that your condition is just a card in your deck of cards. Having a chronic illness or condition is neither a source of shame or pride.
2) Focus on what you can control. You may not be able to control the disease or symptoms, but you can control the direction you take and the choices you make regarding working and your condition. Shape your work environment to meet your needs and to fit your limitations.
3) Don’t consider your condition an obstacle. Consider it a challenge, an opportunity.
4) Be honest. Do not hide your illness, do not be ashamed. But if your illness impacts your work, know your rights. Don’t take on an unnecessary burden of pretending you do not have a chronic condition. Be as public or as private as you need to be.
5) Thrive in your environment. Work with your abilities to achieve success, raise the bar, go for satisfaction not just survival. Use visualization to imagine the work environment that you need and want, stay focused and intend it.
6) Focus on the positive. Workplace success when dealing with a chronic illness or condition can be strengthening and transforming. Many new strengths, skills, qualities and confidence we were not aware we possessed evolve or blossom as a result of our illness.

Definition of Disability
Federal law defines a "Disability" as “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits or restricts the condition, manner, or duration under which an average person in the population can perform a major life activity, such as walking, seeing, hearing speaking, breathing, learning, working, or taking care of oneself. However, an impairment or diagnosis, in and of itself, does not necessarily constitute a disability: it must "substantially limit" these activities.” Another definition describes disability as any restriction or lack (resulting from an impairment) of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being.
Many of us shun at the term or label of being “disabled”. Disability infers that we have an “in” ability to do something, or we lack the ability to do something, that the person is not able or less than whole. When outwardly and inwardly we know we are capable of many wonderful things, sometimes we just need to do things differently or with accommodations. Personally, I consider myself “Difabled”.

Definition of Difability
A Difability means an individual can perform specific functions or activities, but does them differently than a normal person would. That such an individual requires accommodations, but with these accommodations is equally effective and productive as a normal, health individual. Difabled individuals have different abilities, not a lack of abilities.

If you are coping with a serious condition, in order for you to succeed, it is critical that you do accept your limitations, identify them, be open about them and work within them. We must be hopeful in our approach to function and change our thoughts that focus on our “lack of ability” or “Disability to our “different ability” or Difability. That is the difference between continued limitations and possibilities. Once you accept your difabilities and learn to work within them, you can achieve success and thrive in any environment that supports you. You can achieve things that you thought were impossible.

Sometimes what we think is so impossible turns out to be possible after all.”
-K.O’Brien

Chronic Illness & Disability

The backlog of Americans who are waiting for Social Security Disability hearings now numbers 745,000. The average wait for the scheduling of a disability hearing is 17 months.

Are you dealing with a chronic illness and can't work?

Have you been told you will never get Social Security Disability because you don't look as sick as you are?

Are you eligible to apply for disability benefits, but have been angered, frustrated and confused by the endless bureaucracy?

Are you feeling like you are dealing with a system that just doesn't care or that you have to lose everything just to get the basic help you so desperately need?

Finally--How the Law of Attraction Really Works: Here is the Real Secret

"Regardless of your particular spiritual or religious background, for most of us it is undeniable common sense that somehow, in some way, everything is connected with everything else - that there is a powerful source in the Universe from which everything flows. Your key to manifesting your desires in your life is learning how to effectively connect to and harness this incredible power and put it to work for you.

Everything in the Universe is composed of Energy of one form or another, including your thoughts. According to the discoveries in Quantum Physics, all forms of matter and energy are attracted to that which is of a like vibration. As it applies to the Law of Attraction, you attract what you put your energy and focus on, consciously or unconsciously - whether wanted or unwanted. As you'll learn, it's a bit more involved than that - but that's the basic idea.

"Within each life lies the cause of whatever enters it."-- F.W. Sears, How to Attract Success, 1914

You see, it's been scientifically proven that thoughts are energy. They can actually be measured. I'm sure you've seen pictures of people with all of those electrodes hooked up to their heads.
Because everything in the Universe iis composed of energy, and is therefore connected, each thought that you have has a direct effect on your physical reality. You may find this concept hard to accept at first, especially if it is new to you. Most of us go through our lives feeling as if we are at the mercy of external events – we believe that things ‘happen to us.’ We find ourselves in situations not of our own choosing, people treat us unfairly, or life itself treats us unfairly. But what I have come to believe, to know really, is that things don’t just happen to us - WE ATTRACT THEM.

Virtually every event and every aspect of our lives, whether we consider it good or bad, is exactly what we have (either consciously or unconsciously) directed the Universe to bring into our lives. What ‘happens’ to us is the direct result of and the manifestation of what we focus on.
The problem is, for most of us, we are continually using The Law of Attraction to bring into our lives more of the things we don't want, instead of the things we do want. This is because most people do not understand how to effectively and correctly harness this powerful force.

For example, say you really want to get out of debt. You may spend your time dwelling on how large your bills are, how much money you owe - you may even think to yourself, "I am going to get out of debt," or say a prayer asking God to help you find a way to pay off your bills.

The problem with this is that you are still focused on your 'lack' of what you really want. You are focused on your debt - on your pile of bills. What the Law of Attraction does in this case is simply deliver to you or perpetuate more of what you are focusing on - debt and bills. The key is to learn specific techniqes to change your focus to what you really DO want, not what you don't want. It can be a difficult task, changing your thinking. But I have devised a step-by-step system that teaches you EXACTLY how to do this with ease!

The Law of Attraction is perhaps one of the most difficult life principles to accept, because by doing so you are accepting that you are truly in control of your life – that where you are right now, your life experience, is the direct result of your own thoughts and actions. You are accepting full responsibility for your life.

It’s not your parents’ fault, it’s not “luck” and it’s not “fate.” We each make a choice at every moment of every day what we will attract or allow into our lives. Where you are right now is not necessarily good or bad - it just is. The Universe doesn’t have an opinion on what you choose to draw into your life. It simply delivers to you what you consciously or unconsciously focus on with strong emotion and intense belief - ALWAYS, EVERY TIME.

"Spirit is substance which forms itself according to your demands, and must have a pattern from which to work. A pan of dough is as willing to be formed into bread as biscuit. It makes little difference to Spirit what we demand."- Frances Larimer Warner,Our Invisible Supply: Part One, 1907

The exciting thing is that once you learn how to do this - how to use The Law of Attraction effectively in your life - your life will change DRAMATICALLY and INSTANTLY"

FREE Report on Reversal of Law of Attraction

The Law of Vibration and Attraction: You can use it to increase Health, Wealth (which means well-being), prosperity (which means "according to hope") and cultivate your meaningfull relationships.

This law may be considered by many as the law of laws... everything is energy, our thoughts our energy. Everything vibrates, our thoughts vibrate. Positive, passionate, inspired thoughts vibrate at high energies, where as thoughts of anger, fear, depression, anxiety or competition are low energy vibrations. Nothing rests, not even inanimate objects.

Conscious awareness of your thoughts or of vibration is called feelings. When you feel good, you are vibrating at higher frequencies, when you feel bad you are vibrating at lower end frequencies.

Your thoughts control: your paradigm, your environment---your results. Your thoughts dictate that which you attract to you, good things with high vibrations or more bad with lower energy thoughts and vibrations. But remember you can choose your own thoughts and therefore your own results.

Your ability to earn money, attract optimal health of the right people in your life is directly affected by the manner in which you work with this law. In so far as money, or health or success is concerned, how do you plan to work with this law? What changes will you make?

List 10 things that you will do from this day forward in order to work in harmony with this law to secure success, more money, better health or improved relationships.Remember it is important to practice having good thoughts, and feeling good.

So when you feel bad, do something to help you think of something pleasant so you raise your thought vibrations and start to attract more good to you. Listen to uplifting music, personally I pull out my SGR program MP3 player and listen to it to get my thoughts back in positive vibrations or I pull out my Dr Dyer program on inner peace and the power of intention. (http://www.success-innerpeace.com/) The important thing is that you become aware of your feelings and therefore your thoughts. That you change your thoughts and therefore your vibrations to positive ones and higher frequencies.

This is how you master this law and attract more good and abundance (good health, wealth, success, relationships) to you. Stay in the positive higher energies, find what it takes to help YOU get and stay there... you have to find this out for yourself, resources are provided and recommended on this blog, they are all very recognized, respected and effective, but you have to try out what works for you, and use this knowledge to work in harmony with this universal law.

Top 7 Universal Laws for Abundance, Health and Success

The universal laws.... something that I was unaware of until about 3 years ago... are the laws of which the universe works by. By living in Harmony with these Univeral Laws you can improve anything in your life. But understand this, if you want to see changes in your life, you must understand and study these laws, it is the understanding and application of wise thoughts that count!

If you would like new results in your life, better health, better relationships, more wealth, freedom and success, then you must think, feel and act in harmony with these laws.

Here is an excert from the Secret Science of Getting Rich program presenting these universal laws. I found this program powerful and most instructive, I strongly recommend you participate in some program to learn these laws to opimtize your life, your health, your success, your love and your dreams...

I will post some resources at the end of this post....

there are many to choose from, please do decide to act and start learning and working in harmony with these laws and as Dr. Dyer always says... "when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change", meaning these laws work, they absolutely work, guaranteed, when you start to work with them, your life will change, guaranteed.

Now from the SGR program, as written by Bob Proctor:" There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches (may I personally add this is true for love, relationships, optimal health, success of any kind... what ever you desire, there is a law that determines the outcome). Once you learn and obey these laws, you will auotmatically become a member of the select group of people who live "The Secret" and you will get rich (or be successful in whatever you desire (nbm)) with mathematical certainty. There is but one Great Law: namely, "Energy Is" or "God Is".All physical and mental science is based on this one great law and its 7 subsidiary laws which operate in co-ordination with each other. "

Here are the Universal Laws:
1) The Law of Perpetual Transmutation
2) The Law of Relativity
3) The Law of Vibration (Law of Attraction)
4) The Law of Polarity
5) The Law of Rhythm
6) The Law of Cause and Effect
7) The Law of Gender

The best definition of Natural Law seems to be that "it is the uniform and orderly method of the omnipotent God."Additionally, unlike any other form of animal life that has been created, we were given the power of choice or free will."Remember these universal laws and the law of attraction are always working, whether you believe or understand them, the truth is in your current results. You can change your results, just learn these universal laws and apply them to your life. Then think it, feel it and do it and you will attract everything you need, this is the great Secret of life!"

I have researched and found some additional universal laws, I will post those soon!

Life Is A Journey: You Must Set Goals!

Goal Setting
A journey requires goals. Think about it, what do you really want? If you do not know, how can you receive it? Once you identify what you really want, write it down and if you have it already; fantastic! If you do not have what you really want, then establish it as a goal. Choose what you really want to be your experience.
To choose is also to begin.”
-Starhawk

Goal Setting Exercise:
Take a few minutes to reflect on what exactly you wish to do, each day, each week, month and year. Now, take those thoughts and list 3-5 goals. Here are some examples of some goals:

1) I wish to spend more time with my family.
2) I wish to exercise.
3) I wish to work and have a successful career.
4) I wish to find love.
5) I wish to have more money.

Go back and revise your goals and be as detailed, objective and finite as possible. List your goal and then describe it as you imagine it would feel like if you were doing it or having it at this present moment.

1) I wish to spend 3 hours a day, one on one time with my family, playing, laughing and having fun together at the park.

2) I wish to exercise for 30-60 minutes 3-5 times a week, including walking, bicycle riding, weight lifting and swimming.

3) I wish to work in an environment that allows me to strive, not just survive, I wish to be successful and promoted to manager within the year.

4) I wish to meet my soul mate and be involved in a loving, caring, sharing and passionate relationship with this person and partner.

5) I wish to make “$ XX” dollars a year.

Now, go back and review your list again, read it out loud, how does the list make you feel? Do you feel good and happy when you read it and imagine yourself doing it or having those things right now? Good, that means you have identified good goals for you at this time. If you feel anxious or uneasy about your list, then go back and re-write the goals over and over until you do feel good. You should perform this exercise again, once you meet these goals and establish more goals. Once you get the hang of this creative process you will see your life unfold in front of you.

Life is a Journey! Enjoy the Journey, Not the Destination

Life is a journey, a journey filled with off road stumbles and on road bliss. This journey can feel like it is all uphill for those who are coping with a chronic illness, addictive disease or injury-related condition. But life is a journey.

He who chooses the beginning of a road, also chooses its destination.”
-Anonymous

For every journey, a roadmap is helpful in order to get to the destination timely and see all the sights and do all the activities along the way, which one has planned. Many of us travel or have traveled on our journey of life, without such a road map. We all need direction at some time, although many of us don’t typically ask for directions. But how will you know where you want to go if you do not have a goal or destination in mind? Or if one has a destination, but no road map, one may circle around endlessly, reaching the destination long overdue or even worse never at all. Everyone should have a road map for their journey of life. On this road map, it is important to establish what you really want, who you really want to be, your purpose and how you will travel.

A man without a plan for the day is lost before he starts.”

Law of Attraction: Miracles of Healing

Law of Attraction
Understanding the Law of Attraction is most critical to your success in recovering and acquiring hope. Simply put the Law of Attraction states that “I attract into my life whatever I give my energy, focus and attention to, whether unwanted or wanted or conscious or unconscious.” This means that you can have anything you choose, no matter how big it is. This means if we learn how to apply the law of attraction, we can learn how to achieve miracles of healing. We can achieve greater levels of function and recovery.

The Law of Attraction works because we all have one infinite Power; a God, Higher Power or Universe, and that we all guide ourselves by laws; natural laws of the universe, such as the law of gravity and the law of attraction. The law of attraction can best be described as a magnetic force, that like thoughts attract like experiences. That these laws of nature are so precise, that when man thinks about things, he or she can accomplish miracles. The law of attraction says that everything in your life is attracted to you by your thoughts. The Universe takes these thoughts as instructions, and manifests what you think about and focus on, into your life’s experience.

For example, if you think and focus about how sick, tired and emotionally strained you are, you will become sicker, tired and emotionally strained. The more you think and focus on your current situation, wanted or unwanted, the more tolerable or intolerable your situation will become. If you worry and are angry about your loss of function and pain from your illness or about not having good health, you are practically guaranteeing yourself an experience of lack of health. If you are constantly jealous and bitter towards others, as they have health and you do not, you are going to attract more jealousy and bitterness into your experience. What you resist persists and what you fear perseveres.

Our Thoughts have Frequencies
Our thoughts have frequencies, so when you think about or imagine what you want, such as good health, the ability to exercise, the ability to feel good, your thoughts go out to the universe or Higher Power and the universe or Higher Power brings it to you. So if you see yourself living in a healthy body, you will attract this into your experience. So whether you are thinking about your past experiences, your present situation or your future, and whether you are remembering, observing or imagining, the universe or Higher Power is listening and responding by bringing that thought and those things right back to you.

Attracting Thoughts and Things by Using your Mind
Your mind is a sender and receiver of information far beyond the five senses. You can attract thoughts and things into your life, just by using your mind. Think about driving on some remote country road. You try scanning your radio to find a new radio station for some good traveling music. Until you tune into a station, you will not hear the music. But that does not mean that it is not already out there, nor that other people are not already listening to it. The same principle applies to whatever you are attracting into your life. What you are experiencing is dependent upon what frequencies your thoughts are emitting their information on. When you send it out thoughts or information, a message to the Universe or Higher Power, by the power and vibrations of your mind and of your thoughts, you will attract it back to you, into your experience. It is quite a complex theory the first time you hear and consider it. But as you think about it and look around into your world, you will see that indeed this is true. Learn to use information to attract better an abundance of all good things to your life. Visit www.AcquiredHope.com and www.AcquireAbundance.com for free resources and programs.

Chronic Ways of Thought
If one has a prolonged negative chronic way of thinking about their illness, according to the law of attraction, these thoughts will manifest into existence. Their experience will be that of chronic illness and lack. If one is thinking about how bad it is, then they will get more of how bad it is. If one is thinking of how good it is, then they will get more of how good it is. If one is thinking of how good their health is, they will have more good health. If one can accept and practice this concept, one can transform their life.

The key concept to take away is that we are all the architects of our life, good or bad. All of our problems are created by us and us alone, not by your parents, partner, boss, friends, accident, disease, upbringing or family. All of our successes were created by us and us alone, not by luck or chance. We have created them, each and every one. This may be really difficult to accept if this is the first time you are hearing this concept. But once you do, your life can transform into a whole new world, with unlimited possibilities and success, good health, hope and joy.
Life is full of challenges, when faced with a chronic illness or injury, one can either focus on lack and feel blame, or learn from their situation. One can be a victim or a victor. When one chooses to be a victim, he or she blames others, blames their circumstances or blames themselves, they focus on the lack. When on chooses to be a victor, they learn from the situation and grow to be even stronger than before, they use their new knowledge, make positive changes and increase their fulfillment. Are you choosing to be a victim or a victor? Learn how to acquire hope and be a victor!

We have the power to attract more good things, more good health into our experience. One just needs to learn how to apply the laws of attraction and remain focused on what he or she really wants. Consistent thought and affirmations will shift your mind and your energy and allow greater health to come into your experience. Most times, this is a learned skill and hope is acquired. Faith comes from prolonged, sustained and subconscious hope.

My Story

I have Myasthenia Gravis (MG), a chronic, debilitating autoimmune disease that results in extreme fatigue, exhaustion and weakness, thus potentially resulting in the lack of ability and function. For several years I suffered severely from the symptoms of MG. I was devasted physically, emotionally, financially, professionally, spiritually and personally. I felt frustrated, angry, lonely, isolated, sad, fearful and lost. I fought the disease and pushed against it only to find myself sicker and even further from my dreams, goals and desires. I intently wanted good health and a better way of living. So I studied a different approach, one of personal empowerment. I applied this approach to my health and that of recovery. I developed a process of transformation to good health. This process is all about desiring, deserving and believing that good health can also be yours. I advanced my recovery significantly, and so can you. I will show you how to take the journey of advanced recovery and empowerment, if you are ready to acquire hope.

Optimal Health: It is Possible, Read On

Optimal Health: Nutritional Supplements are Recommended
I have read many research articles over the last few years. The reserach indicates that an attention to optimal nutrition is also critical for reaching and maintaining optimal levels of abundant health. The research, the medical journals, they all say the same thing, today’s food is overprocessed and our dietary intake is clearly deficient of all of the essential nurtrients that we need for proper healing and the attainment and maintainment of optimal health.

We live in a world where technology, insecticides, processing, polluted and overchemicalized foods are so deficient in nutrients, that no matter how well we eat, we cannot possibly get all the nutrients we need to heal much less maintain optimal health. Much of the food we buy today goes through approx. 40 different processes before we eat it, each of which reduces nutritional value. U.S. agencies use 3,000 chemicals to add to our foods to rpesever them for long durations of shipping and storage, that americans consume 5 pounds of toxic chemicals each year, all of these synthetic and in our foods.

Vitamins Are Necessary in Your Recovery and for Optimal Health:
If you want to stay sick or just get by with your health, then Do Not take vitamins. If however you would like to be in optimal health and beat chronic illness, then it is necessary to take vitamin supplements every day.

Why take Vitamins:
Vitamins enhance the body’s natural ability to restore and maintain function and good health. They add to the body’s ability to self heal. Our foods are so depelted from essential vitamins and minerals that we are deluded into thinking that if we eat properly we’ll get the vitamins we need. With our technological society, this is no longer possible. I have read numerous articles on this topic and they all say the same thing. Our lifestyles tend to include polluted air, over indulging in fast foods and caffiene drinks, all of these things deplete the body of its natural supply of these critical building blocks.

In addition, because of our illness, we have had to take drugs for years, which also deplete the body of essential health. For example, we are all pretty familiar with the adverse effects of prednison, damagin pretty much all systems in the body, I was on it for 3 years straight. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory meds greatly deplete the body of Vitamin C. In addition all drugs have some deliterious affect on the body and place stress on the body alson increasing the need for vitamin B complex. The mere stress from coping with the illness can cause fear, anxiety, doubt, these negative emotions have been shown to over tax the body, specifically our adrenal glands which skyrocket our nutritional needs.

If you desire optimal health, you MUST focus on good nutrition. You MUST take vitamins.

Which Vitamins to Take:
I have tried various vitamins and supplements over the past few years and have spent the time, money and energy researching. I will pass along my findings to you, but please explore options that best meet your needs! Stay away from cheap grocery store brands, they are poorly made and do not absorb well. Invest in your body and take vitamin supplements that truly provide good nutritional support.

I have found incredible results and felt more energy and vitality from taking the Glyconutrients. These supplements are designed to improve our cellular communication and facilitate healing, and what is the most common cause of most diseases? A break down in blood flow and insuffient nutrients to enable effective and health cellular response and communication.

Please, do your research, but I want to pass along, these products are the ONLY nutritional products that I felt improvement from. And believe me, I tried dozens. But if you want to beat your chronic illness and achieve optimal health, TAKE VITAMINS OF SOME KIND!!!! Please!!!!
